Comparison and evaluation of the performance of data-driven models for estimating suspended sediment downstream of Doroodzan Dam

Dams control most of the sediment entering the reservoir by creating static environments. However, sediment leaving the dam depends on various factors such as dam management method, inlet sediment, water height in the reservoir, the shape of the reservoir, and discharge flow. In this research, the amount of suspended sediment of Doroodzan Dam based on a statistical period of 25 years has been i...

HPC5: An Efficient Topology Generation Mechanism for Gnutella Networks

In this paper, we propose a completely distributed topology generation mechanism named HPC5 for Gnutella network. A Gnutella topology will be efficient and scalable if it generates less number of redundant queries and hence consists of lesser short length cycles. However, eliminating cycles totally, reduces the coverage of the peers in the network. Thus in the tradeoff between the cycle length ...

Approximating Higher-Order Distances Using Random Projections

We provide a simple method and relevant theoretical analysis for efficiently estimating higherorder lp distances. While the analysis mainly focuses on l4, our methodology extends naturally to p = 6, 8, 10..., (i.e., when p is even). Distance-based methods are popular in machine learning. In large-scale applications, storing, computing, and retrieving the distances can be both space and time pro...

Improving Performance in the Gnutella Protocol

The Gnutella protocol describes a completely decentralized P2P file sharing system in which queries are flooded to all neighbors in the search for files. As originally specified, the protocol does not have any notion of providing privacy; as such, because agencies have begun to censor and threaten users of such systems, participation has decreased. In turn, users who continue to utilize the net...

Peer organization in structured P2P network

One of the most popular P2P applications on the internet is P2P media streaming. Finding nearby peer over the internet is challenging job in live media streaming because it is time constrained application and nearest neighbors have to discover as quickly as possible. Objective of media streaming is low latency, QoS and scalability. For applications like Gnutella, finding the nearest peer can re...
